Another question

Who do you think of as a good example of a versatile poet?

Comments:
Versatile in terms of content or form? Or both?

In my community, that word has a very specific slang meaning, but I don't think that's what your asking. If you were, though, the answer would not be Eduardo C. Corral.

I think C. D. Wright is versatile in that every book she writes is clearly distinct.

C. Dale: I was thinking either/or/both. Whatever it means to you in a poetic sense, not in the sense Charles has just informed me it has. (Thanks for letting me know, Charles. I learn something new every day...)

I'm going to have to go with Biz Markie. Nobody beats the Biz.

Damn you, Charles! You beat me to the punch.

I think Ronny Silliman and Donald Hall are verstile in the sense they both write fine poetry and prose. Well, I'm counting Hall's last three books--I hated those books.

A. J. Patrick Liszkiewicz, so you are saying he has what you need?

*I'm not counting Hall's last three poetry books--I hated those books.

Billy Collins

Thomas McGrath, Kenneth Rexroth, Muriel Rukeyser, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Jimmy Santiago Baca are five who come to mind right away.

Olga Broumas. James Galvin.

Shawn McCormick, that is precisely what I'm saying. But he said he was just my friend, so I don't think it's going to go anywhere.

I'd say Billy Collins, too. He can make anything into a poem.
